Pacquiao-Marquez 3 voted 'Robbery of the Year'

MANILA, Philippines – Fight fans considered the third installment of the Manny Pacquiao-Juan Manuel Marquez fight as the “Robbery of the Year,” according to The Ring magazine.

Ringtv.com’s Doug Fischer said 43% of the 2, 270 fans who joined The Ring magazine polls chose Pacquiao-Marquez III as the fight with the worst verdict in 2011.

“The impassioned outcry was not surprising. Pacquiao and Marquez have diehard national followings and their rivalry is among the sports’ most heated of the past 20 years,” said Fischer.

Pacquiao won the fight via a controversial majority decision, retaining his WBO welterweight belt in the process.

This was despite Marquez’s ability to frustrate Pacquiao’s aggressiveness.

“His masterful exhibition of aggressive counter punching shocked and awed most observers,” said Fischer.

But he admitted that the judges favored Pacquiao because he was the busier puncher during the fight.

“It wasn’t enough to sway the official judges, who scored the bout 116-112, 115-113 and 114-114 for Pacquiao (54-3-2, 38 KOs), obviously crediting the huge favorite’s greater activity,” he said.

According to The Ring, other bad decisions of 2011 that received votes included Paul Williams-Erislandy Lara (32.1%), Robert Helenius-Dereck Chisora (9.8%), Devon Alexander-Lucas Matthysse (8.9%) and Felix Sturm-Matthew Macklin (6.3%).

The Ring magazine is considered as the "bible of boxing."

I'm story but I still believe Pacquiao won the close fight fair and square. He was more aggressive and took the fight to Marquez. Marquez played it smart, I know, but Pacquiao was obviously the better fighter.

It's sad that he isn't P4P king anymore. He needs to beat up mayweather soon.
