Donaire to see action in Chavez card

There are talks swirling that Nonito Donaire will face Puerto Rican Wolfredo Vazquez in a a Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.-headlined card set for February 4 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

Donaire last fought in the third week of October, repulsing Argentine Omar Narvaez at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Because Donaire didn’t look spectacular against Narvaez, he is aching to get back into the ring to show fight fans that he is extra-special and not a flash in the pan.

Top Rank is staging the show under the expertise of Bob Arum, who has grand plans for the California-based Filipino puncher.

The vacant World Boxing Organization super-bantamweight crown will be up for grabs and Donaire will be up against a solid customer in Vazquez.

Top Rank is bringing the fights to the Lone Star State owing to the large Mexican population expected to root for Chavez Jr, the son and namesake of the legendary Julio Cesar Chavez.

Donaire is listed in the top five of the world’s best boxers and is being groomed to succeed Pacquiao when he retires in two years time.
