Gregorio flies to US to scout for Meralco import

Ryan Gregorio wants to see his import up close and personal.

The Meralco coach left for the United States on Wednesday after a short holiday vacation in Hong Kong for a busy trip aimed to expand his coaching knowledge while providing an opportunity for hims to scout for a reinforcement for the the 2012 PBA Commissioners’ Cup, which imposes no height limits for imports.

“I’m going to watch UCLA games versus Arizona and Arizona State then observe their practice sessions,” Gregorio wrote in a text message to InterAKTV. “Then I will watch the Los Angeles D-Fenders playing their home game in the NBA D-League.”

“I will also see the NBA D-League showcase in Reno, Nevada, where I might look for import options.”

Gregorio’s Bolts are coming off a quarterfinal round loss at the hands of Petron Blaze in the Philippine Cup, a tournament which saw Meralco win a franchise-record eight games. The coach knows that finding a good import can help their fortunes, and with no height limits, Gregorio knows exactly what he’s looking for.

“We need a center, that’s for sure, so we’re getting one, hopefully in the D-League.”
