Patrimonio, Capadocia to meet in PCA finals

MANILA, Philippines - Clarice Patrimonio and Marian Capadocia barreled their way to the finals of the ladies singles of the 30th Philippine Columbian Association (PCA) Open Tennis Championships at the PCA indoor shell clay court in Paco, Manila.

Top seed Patrimonio used tactical action to turn back No. 5 Tamitha Olivarez-Nguyen, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, while Capadocia dominated Mariel Ante, 7-5, 6-4, to arrange their finals duel in the tournament presented by Cebuana Lhuillier.

"Medyo kinabahan ako nung second set, hindi ako masyadong nakapalo. Nagrelax ako kaya nawala ako sa focus,” said Patrimonio.

“Mas naging agressive ako nung third set para hindi na niya makuha 'yong momentum, iniba ko rin ng konti 'yong game ko para ma-puzzle siya kung saan ko dadalhin 'yong bola," she added.

This will be Patrimonio’s first finals stint in the PCA Open after defending champion Desirae Krawcyzk eliminated her in the semis last year.

"Aggressive rin maglaro si Marian, nakita ko 'yong laki ng improvement niya kaya medyo mahirap mag-predict sa finals. I'll just do my best," said Patrimonio when asked about Capadocia.

The ladies singles finals is set at 11 a.m. Sunday followed by the David and Goliath showdown of top seed Johnny Arcilla and newcomer Jurence Mendoza for the men’s singles title.

A total of P500,000 is up for grabs in the event supported by Alagang Cebuana Plus, Just Jewels, Le Soleil De Boracay, Phiten, Pera Padala, Babolat, Head, Dunlop, PVL Restaurant, Whirlpool, Coca Cola, San Miguel, Lizardo Tennis Academy, Tennis Athletes Unlimited, Phil. Prudential Life Insurance Co., Inc., Gilmore and PLDT.
