Patrimonio leads PH netters Phinma charge

Source | Philippine Daily Inquirer | MANILA, Philippines—Anna Clarice Patrimonio provided the spark for the Filipinos as she barged into the girls singles quarterfinals with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph over Eden Silva of Great Britain Wednesday in the Phinma international juniors week 2 at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
Patrimonio, the top-ranked local player and seeded second in the tournament, next faces Thai seventh seed Warissara Prajoubphansri, who wore down Russia’s Anna Iakovleva, 7-5, 6-4, 0-1 (retired).

Also marching forward with their second-round wins are third seed Tamitha Nguyen, eighth seed Maika Jae Tanpoco and Marian Jade Capadocia.
Nguyen bested Thai Rongrong Leenabanchong, 5-7, 7-5, 1-0 (retired). She faces a tough assignment in last week’s champion Nastassia Rubel of Belarus, who advanced with an easy 6-1, 6-3 win over Angelina Skidanova of Russia.

Tanpoco, 16, ousted Indonesian Deria Nur Haliza, 6-1, 6-4. That win set her up with an early encounter against top seed Kanika Vaidya of India, who rolled over Russian Anna Grigoryan, 6-1, 6-2.

Capadocia also made it through with a 6-1, 6-2 upset victory over fourth seed Dina Karina of Indonesia. She will meet last week’s finalist and fifth seed Miki Kobayashi, who routed Kheen Yen Wee of Singapore, 6-1, 6-1.

Jurence Zosimo Mendoza moved to the quarterfinals of the boys singles after beating Chinese Taipei’s Yin Shao-po, 6-4, 6-4.
