Patrombon struts stuff in Israel

MANILA, Philippines — Jeson Patrombon will go full time as a pro as he competes in three $10,000 Futures legs in Israel early next year.

Patrombon's coach Manny Tecson said the other day that they are scheduled to leave on Jan. 5 with hopes of getting good results after blowing hot and cold both in the pro and amateur tournaments that he participated in.

The first quarter of the year could be a hectic one for Patrombon who is hoping to win his first pro title. His best singles finish was at the Thailand Futures last month when he reached the quarterfinals.

“We've only devoted 40 percent of our schedule on pro tournaments, and 60 percent on junior events this year,” said Tecson. “But despite Jeson's limited stint in the pros, he was able to make it to the Top 1,000 of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) and it's a good sign.”

Patrombon, who turned pro last April, is currently ranked No. 941 in the ATP after joining in 11 Futures events.

While competing in the pros, Patrombon also maximized his final year in the junior circuit by joining high-ranked tournaments. He started the year ranked No. 9 in the ITF and settled for No. 37 this month after participating in only eight junior events.
