PBA D-League: Gems, Jeans Makers take on separate foes in Aspirants Cup

Source | gmanetwork.com | Cebuana Lhuillier and Freego Jeans try to stay on top of the standings when they take on separate foes Thursday in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup at the Adamson gym.

The Gems face winless PC Gilmore at 2 p.m. while the Jeans Makers take on Big Chill at 4 p.m. The Gems and the Jeans Makers suffered different fates in their previous games.Cebuana Lhuillier aims for its third straight win after an inspiring 81-65 victory over Big Chill last Monday.

Freego, meanwhile, attempts to bounce back from a 78-62 loss to DUB Unlimited last Thursday. Gems coach Luigi Trillo said the Wizards remain a dangerous opponent despite their 0-3 win-loss card. “It’s hard to be complacent against them.”

“A lot of teams lose a match because they treat struggling teams lightly. That won’t happen to us. We will play them the way we play the other teams,” Trillo said.

A well-rested Freego Jeans squad is seeking to bounce back after last week, when scheduling problems in the Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) forced several of their players from Adamson University to play two straight games.

“My players are recovering after a hectic schedule last week. And they are well aware that we need to win this game so badly. A win will give us a good chance of earning an outright semifinals seat,” said Freego Jeans coach Leo Austria.

Austria added they are expecting Big Chill to be a tough opponent after dropping its last game to Cebuana Lhuillier. “They (Big Chill) have a lot of good shooters and dependable big men who are tough to match-up with. So we need to play smart.” — JVP, GMA News
