SEAG winners to get incentives

The country’s medalists in the 2011 Indonesian Southeast Asian Games will receive their cash incentives from the government on Wednesday, the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) said on Monday.

PSC chairman Richie Garcia said the formal turnover will be held at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex with a total of P12 million to be distributed not only to the athletes but to their coaches as well.

The athletes will get the lion’s share of P8.070 million, while the coaches will share the remaining. The Philippines settled for sixth place in the 11-nation sportsfest held last month in Jakarta and Palembang with a paltry collection of 36-56-77 (gold-silver-bronze).

Under the law a gold in the SEAG is worth P100,000, while a silver is P50,000 and bronze is P10,000. Cue artists Iris Ranola will receive a total of P200,000 for winning the 8-ball and 9-ball, making her the biggest winner among Filipino athletes even though bowler Frederick Ong had won the men’s single and silver in the men’s Masters and was a part of the doubles and Team of Five.
