Faces familiar to Filipino fans will pepper the lineup of the renamed Westports Malaysia Dragons when the 2012 season of the ASEAN Basketball League tips off next year.
Veteran PBA big man Nic Belasco will make his return to the hardcourt as one of Malaysia’s three ASEAN imports, alongside former Meralco guard Chris Pacana and sharpshooter Patrick Cabahug, who returns for another tour of duty with the Dragons.
At the helm of the Dragons is yet another Filipino, former Jose Rizal University coach Ariel Vanguardia.
But the familiar faces aren’t just limited to the Filipinos on the squad. Tiras Wade, a former Talk ‘N Text import, will backstop the Malaysian team alongside former Tennessee center Brian Williams.
The rest of the squad will be composed of standouts from Malaysia’s national squad, including center Kwaan Yoong Jing, who is best known among Filipino fans for getting into a scuffle with Asi Taulava in the 2011 Jones Cup last August.
