source | Philippine Daily Inquirer | MANILA, Philippines—University of the East snatched its fifth straight women’s crown while University of Santo Tomas regained the men’s championship in UAAP Season 74 fencing that ended Monday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
“The key to this championship is dedication and passion,” said coach Rolando Canlas of the Lady Warriors.
Patricia Marie Melendres led UE’s successful campaign on her last playing year in the league and won Most Valuable Player honors. Former SEA Games bronze medalist Cristine Almas also played her last season.
The Growling Tigers clinched three gold and one bronze medals to bag their third men’s title and their first since the 2008-09 season.
UST’s Donnie Navarro was also named MVP.
