Cotto wants revenge vs Pacquiao

MANILA, Philippines — Pumped up by his brutal beatdown of Antonio Margarito, Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto believes he can exact sweet revenge against Filipino star Manny Pacquiao if they square off in a rematch.

Speaking to the Puerto Rican media days after dealing Margarito a ninth-round stoppage defeat in New York, Cotto said the acquisition of a new trainer will help him get even with Pacquiao.

Pacquiao stopped Cotto in Nov. 2009 and Cotto’s recent win has ringsiders feeling intrigued about pairing them together.

Cotto said the arrival of Pedro Diaz, a Cuban émigré, has done wonders to his career and that in the event he meets Pacquiao for the second time, he is certain that he will emerge victorious.

“I have no doubt (that I will win against Pacquiao in the rematch),” Cotto told Primera Hora.

“I understand that with courage and the new training that I have now, there is no doubt (I will win).”

Pacquiao is still looking at an opponent for his much-awaited return in 2012.

Floyd Mayweather heads the list, while waiting in the wings are Juan Manuel Marquez and Tim Bradley.

Cotto may not be on Pacquiao’s radar screen right now but he will surface later next year or early in 2013.

Like Pacquiao, Cotto is also targeting Mayweather.
