Patrimonio too much for rival

sourec | MB.com.ph | MANILA, Philippines — SEA Games veteran Clarice Patrimonio dumped her rival to lead the charge of the favorites in the opening round of the women’s singles event in the 30th Philippine Columbian Association (PCA) Open Tennis Championships Tuesday at the PCA clay courts.

The 18-year-old Patrimonio, a bronze medalist in the Indonesia biennial meet last month, hardly broke a sweat in disposing of Jennelyn Magpayo, 6-1, 6-0, in a match that lasted less than an hour.

With her win, Patrimonio advanced outright to the quarterfinals after qualifier Monika Banez and Jasmine Tan Ho failed to show up during their scheduled match. The winner between Banez and Ho could have arranged a second-round meeting with Patrimonio.

Third pick Aileen Rogan stormed into the second round with nary a trouble by beating qualifier Joanna Tan, 6-0, 6-1, while sixth seed Marinel Rudas thumped Len Santos, 6-2, 6-3.

Other winners were Roxanne Resma, who hammered down Jella Jade Capadocia, 6-1, 6-3; and Martina Guba, who beat JV Custodio, 6-2, 6-2.
