Unseeded netter shocks 3rd pick in PCA ladies tilt

MANILA, Philippines – Unseeded Maika Tanpoco shocked third pick Aileen Rogan, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2, in the ladies' singles of the 30th Philippine Columbian Association (PCA) Open.

Tanpoco advanced to the quarterfinals to face No. 5 Tamitha Nguyen.

Nguyen, meanwhile, breezed through Melissa Esguerra, 6-0, 6-0.

Also making it in the quarterfinals are Mariel Ante and Martina Guba who prevailed over Alyssa Labay, 6-3, 6-1, and Roxanne Resma, 6-1, 6-1, respectively.

Second seed Marian Jade Capadocia and Louise Lopez sailed into the next round via walk-over wins against Maia Bernadette Balce and 4th seed Bambi Zoleta.

In the juniors division, Jeleardo Amazona escaped with a 7-6 (6), 6-0 win over Eric Olivarez Jr. to bring home the title in the boys' 14-under.

Rogelio Estanislao copped the boys' 16-under title with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Kyle Parpan.
