US rider tops Iloilo motocross

MANILA, Philippines — American rider Dennis Stapleton survived his toughest challenge yet from hometown bet Glenn Aguilar in ruling the Pro Open division of the penultimate stop of the 2011 Enersel Forte National Motocross Series and Word Motocross Series held over the weekend in Sta. Barbara, Iloilo.

Down by three points behind the frontrunning Aguilar, 22-25, after the opening heat, the 29-year-old California native roared back to clinch the second and final heat to top the event and relegate the Filipino ace to runner-up honors, although both finished with similar 47 points.

Bornok Mangosong took third place with 38 points in the event sponsored by Enersel-Forte vitamin syrup, Therasil lozenges, Bridgestone tires and Team Pacquiao.

Jose Acaban III topped the Novice Local Enduro division with 45 points, edging second placer Edgar Dajay (43) while DJ Barretto finished third (38) at the winding and rolling Sta. Barbara circuit located a few kilometers away from the new Iloilo airport.
